Clutch Pitching And Khalil Robinson’s Homers Help Rust Bearcats Sweep Doubleheader

The Rust College baseball program saw its pitching staff hold the Bulldogs to just two runs over 19 innings while the offense came through in critical situations to help Coach Bates’ club win its fourth games in-a-row, 4-0 in 12 and 3-2 in seven.

Game one saw the quartet of starter Malik BerrienJohnathan FinchBrytan Sampson, and winning pitcher D’Anfrenee Bonner combine to allow just seven hits while striking out ten Tougaloo batters through 12 innings of scoreless baseball.

Game two was the Quincy McGraw Jr. show as he recorded a complete game victory as he went the full seven frames with three whiffs and just one earned run (two total) surrendered to go along with six hits. He also added a double from the batter’s box during the opener.

Khalil Robinson was the offensive catalyst on the afternoon, driving in four of the team’s seven runs (57.1%) courtesy of a two-run blast, a solo shot, and an RBI single.

Jalin Thomas did the rest of the work as he brought around the other three runners in to score, both of his base knocks being singles on top of a sacrifice fly.

James Slaughter IV cranked out a double with the basepaths being a playground for the trio of Tremaine Callaway (3), Jesse Burton III (2), and Victor Clay (2) to swipe eight steals (Berrien had one).
