GRAND PRAIRIE, TX: The Texas Wesleyan University baseball team (1-2) suffered an 11-0 loss at the hands of Jarvis Christian College (2-1) at QuikTrip Park on Saturday.
The game was moved up to an 11:30 a.m. start to ensure the contest could be played before rain moved into the Metroplex. The early start did not agree with the Rams.
Jarvis Christian threatened immediately with a pair of singles to start the game. Jonathan Morin was able to work out of the jam with no damage done. The Bulldogs loaded the bases in the second, but again Morin escaped the trouble.
Things came apart in the fourth inning. The first ten Bulldogs all reached base. Nick Mello blasted a two run double in the inning, and Vance Moody singled twice and knocked in a run. In all, 12 Bulldogs went to the plate, and Jarvis scored nine runs on seven hits, an error, and a hit-batter.
Jarvis added RBI singles from Javian Randle and Mello in the fifth to bring the score to 11-0.
Meanwhile Marcus Jones (1-0) tossed all seven innings for Jarvis. He allowed six hits and struck out five. Morin (0-1) allowed eight runs, seven earned, in three innings of work. The Rams did get two solid innings of relief work from freshman hurler EJ Alejandre. He allowed no runs and no hits while striking out three and walking one.
Tyler Kamtz went 2-for-2 in the loss for Texas Wesleyan.
