Black College Nines HBCU Top 10 Baseball Poll – Week 4 (4/17/17-4/24/17)

Jackson State University remains the No. 1 ranked team for the second week straight in Black College Nines’ 2017 Historically Black College and University (HBCU) regular season baseball poll announced on April 25, 2017.

The Tigers, 31-12 overall and 17-4 in Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), received the most first-place votes in the “large school” Top 10 poll. Jackson State, is also receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division I Poll.

Bethune Cookmen University held steady at the No. 2 spot. Norfolk State University climbed two spots up to No. 3, Florida A&M University remains for the second week in a roll at No. 4. Alabama State University up one spot into No. 5.

The remaining large school poll looks like this. North Carolina A&T University tumbled three spots to No. 6. Delaware State University climbed three spots to No. 7, North Carolina Central University down one to No. 8. Texas Southern University retains No. 9 while Grambling State University fell two spots to No. 10 to round out the large school poll.

Winston Salem State University held on to the No. 1 ranking in the “small school” Top 10 poll for the second week in a row. The Rams, got strong pitching performance from their number one and number two starters in winning their conference weekend series on the road. Winston Salem State, overall are 27-13 and 12-0 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).

Notable changes took place from the previous poll rankings. Two Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) rivals moved up two spots in the small school top 10 poll. Edward Waters College moved just one spot to No. 2 and Talladega College jumped two spots to No. 3. Harris-Stowe State University slipped two steps to No. 4. as Jarvis Christian College moved up one spot to No. 5.

Rounding out the remaining small school Top 10 poll. Benedict College slipped two spots to No. 6, both Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) members Miles College and Paine College both rise up two steps to No. 7 and No. 8 respectfully. Quietly entering into the poll for the first time this season, Stillman College on a 13-game winning streak enters at No. 9 as Tuskegee University falls three steps to No. 10.

The crowning of Black College Nines’ National Champions will be announced on Tuesday, May 23rd, 2017 at 10 AM (EST) on the Black College Nines’ website.

The Voting Committee of Black College Nines determines the Top 10 rankings. Overall records do not include ties.
