Fifty-six Historically Black College and University (HBCU) baseball players have been named to the 2020 Black College Nines’ Pre-Season Elite first and second teams. The large school division is made up of NCAA Division I schools and the small school division is made up of schools in the NCAA Divisions II and III as well as those in the NAIA and USCAA.
In the large school division, Florida A&M placed five players on the Pre-Season Elite team with Coppin State, Jackson State, and Norfolk State each placing three players from their respective programs. Defending HBCU baseball national champion Southern University placed two players on the Elite list as did North Carolina Central, North Carolina A&T, Grambling State, and Alabama State. Alcorn State and Prairie View A&M placed one each on the squad.
In the small school division, Lane College landed four players on the Pre-season Elite list while Albany State and Jarvis Christian each placed three players on the pre-season teams. Claflin, Miles, Texas College, Virginia State, and West Virginia State accounted for two each. Benedict, Edward Waters, Florida Memorial, Kentucky State, Paine, Stillman, Talladega, and Wiley each had one ballplayer named.
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) and the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), both had six different programs represented on the large school squad while the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) listed six different programs among the small schools.
Selections were made based upon research and statistical information and information provided by coaching staffs.
