Ty Sizemore showed timely hitting on Thursday, driving in five on three hits to lead Bluefield State past Carolina University Bruins Varsity, 15-2 on.
Sizemore drove in runs on a single in the third, a double in the fourth, and a double in the fifth. The Big Blue notched seven runs in the fifth inning. Bluefield State’s big inning was driven by doubles by Kevon Moxey and Sizemore, a walk by David Wilson, and a single by Tanner Brandon.
Howie Spencer was the winning pitcher for The Big Blue. The pitcher surrendered two runs on five hits over five innings, striking out three and walking one.
Jacob Ladley led things off for Carolina University. The pitcher surrendered five runs on seven hits over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Lucas Shannon, Hunter Rhineberger, and Zach Williams each contributed in relief for the Bruins Drew Martin led the Bruins with two hits in two at-bats.
Bluefield State saw the ball well today, racking up 17 hits in the game. Sizemore, CJ Cooper, JR McRee, Taylor Tibbs, Noah Wooten, and Brandon each had multiple hits for the Big Blue. McRee, Cooper, and Sizemore each collected three hits to lead Bluefield State College. Bluefield State didn’t commit a single error in the field. Sizemore had the most chances in the field with four.
Game 2
The Big Blue ran off with the lead late in the game in a 5-4 victory over the Bruins in game two. The game was tied at three with Bluefield State batting in the top of the seventh when Ty Sizemore hit a solo homer.
Bluefield State evened things up at three in the top of the sixth inning. Trae Fowler tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Chase Adkins earned the win for the Big Blue. The pitcher went one inning, allowing one run on one hit and walking zero. Cam Hodge and Daniel Rayfield entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.
Tanner Brandon started the game for the Big Blue. The right-hander went three innings, allowing three runs on five hits and striking out two.
Bluefield State hit one home in game number two. Sizemore had a homer in the seventh inning.
Bluefield State collected ten hits. Sizemore, Fowler, and JR McRee each racked up multiple hits for the Big Blue. Sizemore led Bluefield State with three hits in three at-bats. The Big Blue didn’t commit a single error in the field. Sizemore had six chances in the field, the most for the team.
The Bruins totaled six hits in the game. Josh Kent and Drew Martin each managed multiple hits for Carolina University.
