Bethune-Cookman right-handed pitcher Nolan Santos was the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) player taken in the 2023 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft when he was selected in the 7th round (No. 207 overall pick) by the Minnesota Twins.
Santos was a two year starter with the Bethune Cookman, finished the season pitching 97.1 innings with a 3.51 earned run average recording 138 strikeouts.
(6’1″ 205) threws strikes using all square inch of the strike zone and outer plate for outs. Struck out many batters his entire prep and collegiate career, he induces ground outs or pop ups at a high rate. Sat in the mid-90s, an excellent rate for his level. His change up, ability to spin the curveball, quality breaking pitch draws good grades and should bode well at the major league level.
Santos set a new B-CU program record for strikeouts in a single season in a 5-0 Wildcats win May 19th, over Jackson State. The 138 strikeouts surpass his own program record of 113, set last season.
