Bethune-Cookman’s Harold Baez Signs With Frederick Keys of MLB Draft League

Bethune-Cookman’s Harold Baez signed to play for the Frederick Keys of the MLB Draft League earlier this month. Baez, a Miami, Florida native was red-shirted for the 2024 season. He played in the Florida Collegiate Summer League with the DeLand Suns, earning an opportunity to sign a professional contract since he was one of the better pitchers in the summer league.

Also spent seasons with the Casper Horseheads of the Expedition League, as well as with the Bristol State Liners of the Appalachian League.

Across all stops, Baez has compiled a 5.54 ERA with 92 strikeouts in 100.2 innings pitched.

Pittsburgh State

Appeared in 12 innings for the Gorillas, working a 8.76 ERA.

Struck out 11 with 5 walks.

Western Nebraska College

Spent two seasons with the Cougars

Made 12 appearances on the mound, including 11 starts.

In 2022, posted a 3-6 record with 51 strikeouts in 54.1 innings of work.

In 2021, compiled a 3-3 record with three saves and 51 strikeouts in 50 innings.

The MLB Draft League was formed in 2021 following Major League Baseball’s reorganization of the minor leagues.The league features six teams with the league split into two parts.

During the initial 30 games of the year, the league adopts an amateur format featuring draft-eligible players hoping to improve their position ahead of the annual MLB Draft. Throughout the final 50 games, the MLB Draft League transitions to a professional format featuring ballplayers who have exhausted their amateur eligibility. Each professional player receives weekly compensation, travel, housing, and meal money while attempting to propel their team to the MLB Draft League title.

The Frederick Keys are based in Frederick, Maryland.
