ATLANTA – The Benedict College baseball team completed a series sweep over Clark Atlanta, taking a 13-8 victory over the Panthers on Sunday afternoon.
Andre Collum was 3-for-3 with a solo home run, while Kevin Davis was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two stolen bases.
The Tigers improve to 21-14 overall and 12-4 in the SIAC. Clark Atlanta fell to 1-27 overall and 1-16 in the SIAC.
The Tigers exploded for eight runs in the third inning. Christopher Lail hit a single with the bases loaded to score a pair of runs. David White Jr. followed with a double to score Collum. After a flyout, Gavin Murphy was intentionally walked to load the bases with two outs. Andrew McCoy hit a single to score Lail and White. McCoy stole second and came home on a single by Davis. Davis later stole home on a double steal with Mitchell Dixon.
Benedict pushed the lead to 12-0 in the fourth inning. Collum led off the inning with a homer. White doubled and came home on a single by Lashante Grimes. Murphy and Davis had RBI singles later in the inning.
Clark Atlanta scored two runs in the fourth inning and another in the fifth to make it 12-3.
The Tigers put another run on the board in the seventh, as Armando Valentin walked with two outs, stole second and came home on a single by Rodney Beach.
The Panthers scored five runs in the eighth inning to cut the lead to 13-8, but Devon Lemon came in to pitch the ninth and put the Panthers down in order.
Benedict is back in action on Monday against North Greenville at 1 p.m. at Tiger Field. The game had been scheduled to play at USC’s Carolina Stadium, but a conflict caused the game to be moved back to Benedict’s campus.
