Albany State Looks to Extend Ten Game Winning Streak  

Albany State is one of the hottest HBCU teams in college baseball as they currently own a ten-game winning streak. With an 11-2 overall record and a 9-0 start in conference play, the Golden Rams are clicking on all cylinders as the league schedule begins to ramp up. It is their best start through 13 games in program history and they’re currently in first place in the conference standings.

Their latest victory came on Monday in a 18-1 win over LeMoyne-Owen College on the road. Albany State opened the games scoring one run in the first inning and responded with four additional runs in the third. Luke Addison broke the game open in the 5th inning with a two-run double as part of a eleven run frame for ASU. Freshman Landon Kiefer earned his third victory (3-1) with eight strikeouts in the game in 4.0 innings of work.

Albany State swept a three-game series against Lane College last weekend, outscoring the Dragons 31-5 and a few days earlier defeated Thomas University 10-6 at home in a midweek contest.

Infielder Hill Corley has been a key addition to the program from Albany, GA. He leads the team with a .500 batting average and 19 hits. He has also done a masterful defensive job in the infield at shortstop.

Chase Karn is second on the team in batting average (.436), with one homerun, and 15 runs batted in. He also is 4-for-4 in the stolen base department.

First baseman Tucker Jordan is having a great start to the season. He is hitting .435 with 14 runs batted in, has a .565 slugging percentage and a .622 on-base percentage along with 11 runs scored.

Outfielder Lavoiser Fisher, the big bat for the Golden Rams, is hitting .364, with 8 homeruns, 3 doubles, and 23 runs batted in.

Overall, Albany State has ten hitters batting over .300 this season.

Starter Jeremiah Reddell has been fantastic with a 4-0 record and 1.57 earned run average with 20 strikeouts in 4 starts and 23.0 innings pitched. Opponents are hitting just .235 against Reddell this season. Landon Kiefer has also been a great addition to the starting rotation. He is 3-1 with a 2.14 earned run average with 19 strikeouts in 21.0 innings on the hill. Opponents are hitting just .138 against Kiefer.

Out of the bullpen, Brady Davis and Tyler Bullock have stepped up as key arms in middle relief this season. Davis has thrown 14.1 innings as a starter and reliver and has a 2-0 record with a 1.47 earned run average. He has 10 strikeouts. Bullock has thrown 9.1 innings over five appearances in relief with a 0.96 earn run average. The righty has 7 strikeouts and holding foes to a .103 batting average.

Black College Nines (BCN) releases its HBCU Baseball Top 10 Poll later this week and Albany State is certain to be included.

The Golden Rams will look to continue its hot streak this weekend at home against SIAC conference foe Savannah State in a big conference three-game series showdown and the early season battle for first place in the conference. If ASU can win the series this weekend, they will continue to turn heads in the league after both teams were in the top five in BCN preseason To 10 poll.

Both Albany State and Savannah State are also listed in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 10 South Region poll announced last week as the Golden Rams are ranked No. 9, while the Tigers are receiving votes.
