The Albany State University baseball team used a home field advantage to secure a doubleheader victory over the Lions of Lincoln University on Friday in non-conference action.
GAME ONE: ALBANY STATE 9, LINCOLN 1
Albany State used some small ball in the first inning to tally four runs en route to the 9-1 victory in the opener.
A pair of bunts sandwiched by a walk loaded the bases for the Golden Rams, and a base-clearing double got the scoring going. ASU added single runs in the second and fourth innings before tacking on a three spot in the fifth.
Lincoln’s Hilman Truss broke up the shutout with a one-out single in the top of seventh adding the only run of the contest. TJ Thomas finished the contest going two-for-two at the plate and adding two runs.
Michael Reddick collected the win on the mound for the Golden Rams pitching six innings and only allowed three hits and one walk.
GAME TWO: ALBANY STATE 5, LINCOLN 3
Against a drawn-in infield, a hit that landed in the dirt just beyond third base went for a two-run double that provided the margin of defeat for the Lincoln Lions. Lincoln open the scoring in the fourth inning with adding two runs. The Golden Rams answered with adding one run in the bottom of the fourth.
ASU then took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning after securing two runs. A sacrifice fly by the Lions brought home the tying in the top of the sixth inning. The Golden Rams answered plating two runs to take the 5-3 victory. Lachlan Ross led the Golden Rams offense with two of the team’s six hits.
Aaron Ginn collected the victory on the mound for the Golden Rams. He surrendered one run and two strikeouts.
