Alabama State’s Omar Melendez and Texas Southern’s Daalen Adderley Earns NCBWA Baseball All-American Honors

Alabama State’s Omar Melendez and Texas Southern slugger Daalen Adderley were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWS) NCAA Division I Second and Third Team All-American baseball teams, respectively, as announced Wednesday June 14th by the national association.

Melendez was named Black College Nines HBCU Baseball Pitcher of the Year and Black College Nines Elites First-Team, posting a perfect 12-0 record. He led the SWAC in wins (12), ERA (2.52) and complete games (4). Melendez ranked third in the SWAC in innings pitched (93.0), fourth in strikeouts (96) and fifth in opponent batting average (.253) and was a finalist for the Dick Howser Trophy.

 

Adderley finished the 2023 season ranked sixth nationally in NCAA DI sixth batting as he sported a .421 average with 6 home runs and 42 runs batted in. He also ranks third in the NCAA in on-base percentage (.541) and 21st in runs per game (1.25).
