The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) has named Alabama State University’s Cage Cox to its 2017 Freshman All-American Team. Cox was voted Second Team All-American Designated Hitter.
Cox, also selected by both Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) and Black College Nines as their Freshman of the Year, finished the 2017 season ranked fifth in the SWAC in batting average (.356), scored 53 runs, had 75 hits, 17 doubles, 2 triples, 7 home runs and 45 runs batted in.
Thirty-one freshmen college baseball players across the nation from 29 different NCAA Division I baseball programs and fifteen conferences were chosen by the members of the NCBWA.
The 2017 NCBWA National Freshman Player of the Year and National Freshman Pitcher of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 13.
