Alabama State junior outfielder Trenton Jamison (Atlanta, Ga.) was named to the 2022 Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award Watch List released by the organization on Tuesday. The award, created by the Bobby Bragan Youth Foundation, was open to all Division I baseball programs in the country, with the BBCSA being based on performance at the plate, academics, and personal integrity.
This year’s list consists of 44 players representing 18 conferences around the country, including all five power conferences. The list includes 13 seniors, 17 juniors, and 14 sophomores. Jamison was the lone player from the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) on the list and one of three players from the state of Alabama including Zan Denton (Alabama) and Santi Montiel (South Alabama).
Jamison makes the move to the outfield in 2022 and is coming off a season in which he was named Second Team All-Conference at third base. He was also named ABCA All-Region and was a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Award last season. He hit .390 with an OPS of 1.093 in 39 games last season, and he picked up 64 hits in 164 official at-bats. Among those hits were 12 doubles, two triples, and eight home runs. He also drove in 43 runs and scored another 44, while recording a slugging percentage of .634.
The BBCSA originally started out in 2017 as an honor going to the top college hitter in Texas. In 2019, it expanded, becoming a regional award covering Division I programs in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. It became a national award in 2020; however, no winner was announced due to the COVID-19 virus which cut the 2020 baseball season short.
The winner will be announced in June and honored at a gala in the fall at the Fort Worth Club.
