Alabama State’s Randy Flores First HBCU Player Taken in 2024 MLB Draft

 

Alabama State infielder Randy Flores was the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) player taken in the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) First-Year Player Draft when he was selected in the 8th round (No. 232 overall pick) by the Los Angeles Angels.

This past season, Flores batted .341, with 14 doubles, 4 triples, belted 10 home runs, with 44 runs batted in. During the 2024 season, he had a .571 slugging percentage to go along with a .424 on base percentage.

The senior infielder recorded 119 putouts with a .977 fielding percentage. Flores made Black College Nines’ HBCU Baseball All-Elite team in 2023 and 2024.
