2025 HBCU Baseball Season Week Six Weekend Recap

No. 5 Savannah State swept No. 2 Albany State in a three-game series, winning 10-9 on Saturday after two wins on Friday (5-3 and 8-1). This victory extends Savannah State’s winning streak to six games, improving its record to 11-5 overall and 9-2 in the SIAC.

Coppin State’s baseball team split a doubleheader at Mercyhurst to begin Northeast Conference play on Friday afternoon. The Eagles (3-9, 1-1 NEC) lost the first game, 1-0, but won the second game, 3-2. Coppin State won the three-game series by taking two of three games with a 1-0 victory in Sunday’s 3-hit shutout.

The Florida A&M baseball team won two out of three games against the University of West Georgia at Moore-Kittles Field in Tallahassee. The Rattlers lost the first game of Friday’s doubleheader 7-3 but won the second game 6-0. They clinched the series with a 7-4 victory on Saturday, achieving a 2-1 series win.

No. 3 Miles completed a three-game series sweep against SIAC conference opponent Kentucky State. The Golden Bears secured victories with scores of 17-6 and 22-7 in Saturday’s doubleheader and concluded the series with an 11-2 win in the final game.

No. 10 ranked Paine College, now 7-4 overall, won two out of three games against Bob Jones University Bruins in Augusta, Ga. They took the first game 8-1, lost the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader 11-10, but clinched the series with a 6-1 win.

Alcorn State won two out of three games against Alabama A&M at the Bulldog Baseball Field in Huntsville, AL. The Braves lost the first game of Friday’s series opener 7-4 but won Saturday’s second game 15-12 in 11 innings. They secured the series with a 21-8 victory on Sunday, resulting in a 2-1 series win.

The Voorhees College Tigers swept Philander Smith University in a three-game series, winning 23-17 and 12-1 on Friday and securing the sweep with a 20-14 victory on Saturday. Voorhees scored 55 runs, had 60 hits, and hit 14 home runs in the series.

In Wiley University’s weekend sweep of Rust College, Ivan Del Villar hit a grand slam and solo home run in Game 1 on Friday. In the second game, he hit a go-ahead three-run double in the fifth inning. Ethan Jones picked up his first career victory, throwing three scoreless innings in Game 2 with a strikeout. Jaziel Martinez hit a go-ahead 3-run home run in the fifth inning of Game 3 and Jalen Porter earned his first save with two scoreless innings and four strikeouts.
