2025 HBCU Baseball Season Week Five Weekend Recap

Texas Southern University swept Grambling State in a three-game series, winning 23-12 on Friday, 14-4 in Saturday’s doubleheader, and securing the final game 12-11. The Tigers scored a total of 49 runs.

Southern University completed a three-game sweep against Saint Peter’s University over the weekend in nonconference action held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Jaguars, with a record of 6-4, faced a challenge in the first game, entering the bottom of the ninth inning trailing 4-3. However, they secured a dramatic 5-4 walk-off victory with a two-run home run. Southern continued their dominance in Saturday’s doubleheader, winning decisively with scores of 14-4 and 15-5. Over the course of the series, the Jaguars outscored Saint Peter’s 34-13 to achieve the sweep.

Jackson State completed a weekend sweep of Alcorn State in SWAC non-conference action, securing an 11-1 victory in eight innings on Friday at Smith Wills Stadium. The Tigers (9-2) also achieved a 19-6 win in seven innings during the first game of the doubleheader and followed it up with a 13-3 win in the second game on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Florida A&M baseball team won a nonconference doubleheader against High Point Academy 5-3 and defeated Mercer University 5-2, demonstrating effective pitching and defense while playing on the road in Macon, GA.

Bethune-Cookman swept a four-game series against former MEAC member, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The Wildcats won 7-2 on Friday, 10-8 and 8-7 in Saturday’s doubleheader, and finished with a 30-5 victory in the finale.

Albany State lost the first game 12-9 to LeMoyne-Owens College in SIAC, then won the second game 18-3 and the third game 20-2. Their record is now 11-6 overall and 7-2 in SIAC play.

Stillman College of the HBCUAC Conference swept Philander Smith University in a Saturday doubleheader, winning 5-1 and 5-4. The Tigers, now 6-8 overall and 5-3 in conference, clinched the series with a 25-17 victory.

The Wiley baseball team won two out of three games against Louisiana State University at Alexandria. They lost the first game 10-8 but won Saturday’s doubleheader 12-6 and secured the series with a 10-8 victory in Marshall, Texas.

The Miles College baseball team won two out of three games in Birmingham, Alabama at Rickwood Field. The Golden Bears defeated Clark Atlanta, winning the doubleheader on Friday with scores of 14-9 and 16-10, but lost 24-5 on Saturday.

Lane College’s baseball team won two out of three games against Benedict College. They lost game one 10-9, but won game two 12-8 and secured the series with a 12-6 victory in Jackson, TN.
