Alabama State in the “large school” division and Talladega College in the “small school” division head Black College Nines’ second regular season top 10 polls of 2025.
Alabama State University has secured the No. 1 ranking in the Black College Nines 2025 Historically Black College and University regular season baseball poll, which was announced on March 19, 2025.
The Hornets, who compete in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, earned the most first-place votes and total points in the “large school” division, which includes NCAA Division I baseball programs. Following Alabama State, SWAC rival Jackson State University dropped one spot to the No. 2 ranking.
There were notable changes throughout the rest of the poll. Florida A&M University rose to the No. 3 position, while Bethune-Cookman University fell from second to fourth place. Southern University dropped two spots to No. 5, and Texas Southern University moved up one spot to No. 6. Grambling State University fell from the previous poll to No. 7, Prairie View A&M University climbed to No. 8, and North Carolina A&T State University dropped to No. 9. Coppin State University entered the Top 10 for the first time this season, rounding out the large school poll.
In the “small school” division, Talladega College remains at No. 1, with Savannah State University holding the No. 2 position in this week’s Black College Nines Top 10 poll.
Several noteworthy changes from the previous poll rankings were observed in this division as well. Miles College remains at No. 3, while Wiley College climbed from No. 6 to No. 4. Albany State University slipped three spots to No. 5, and Edward Waters University dropped from No. 4 to No. 6. Florida Memorial University, previously unranked, enters No. 7. Dillard University, Morehouse College, and Paine College all maintain their previous rankings in the national Top 10.
The small school Top 10 poll will have national implications throughout the 2025 regular season which will lead to HBCU baseball programs competing for a national title in the fifth annual Black College World Series scheduled for May 7-10, 2025, at Rockabillys Stadium (home of the Jackson Rockabillys) in Jackson, Tennessee.
Black College Nines HBCU Baseball Ranking Committee determines the Top 10 rankings for both large schools and small schools.

The voting committee is made up of an informed and impartial group of individuals who follow college baseball on all levels, including Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) baseball. Included in the group are college athletic administrators and educators, college baseball writers and other sports journalists and broadcasters, former HBCU and other college ballplayers and above all else… college baseball enthusiasts who have an interest in promoting HBCU baseball.
As the college baseball season concludes, champions are named in two divisions… the “large school” division will is composed of the 17 HBCU schools representing NCAA Division I and a “small school” division made up of the 37 HBCU schools with NCAA Division II, NAIA and NCCAA status.
