2023 MLB Undrafted HBCU Baseball Free Agent Tracker: Potential Agreements

This year’s 20-round MLB draft has concluded. MLB organizations will continue to add collegiate talent in the coming days as nondrafted free agents. Many HBCU baseball players still have a chance to sign as free agents.

All 30 MLB teams have the option to sign an unlimited amount of undrafted free agents. In 2020, signing bonuses were capped at $20,000. During the 2021 MLB Draft using the same format, the league removed the $20,000 cap on signing bonuses for undrafted players in 2022.

Signing bonuses for undrafted players will no longer be capped at $20,000. An undrafted player can receive up to $125,000. Any amount over $125,000 will count against a team’s bonus pool.

On March 26, 2020, MLB, and the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) reached a deal that included the option to shorten the draft to five rounds, and then to include the 2021 and 2022 draft to 20 rounds which sits current.
