Baseball will be returning soon for the 2023 HBCU collegiate season and there will be plenty of small school HBCU action. The HBCU baseball small school division season begins January 27th with Dillard University facing Louisiana Christian University. The following day, Dillard will play its second doubleheader versus Louisiana Christian. Xavier University of Louisiana faces Oakwood University in a doubleheader on January 29th, Morehouse College visits Shorter University on February 1st and Lane College faces Lynn University the following day.
While there are a handful of games just prior, the bulk of the HBCU baseball small school division season begins the weekend of February 3-4th. A multitude of non-conference and conference matchups begin the weekend slate. On the line is a chance to compete for a HBCU national title in the Black College World Series scheduled for May 9-14, 2023, in Montgomery, Alabama.
Three baseball programs, Philander Smith College, Dillard University, and Oakwood University, added baseball as a varsity sport and they will kick off their scheduled 2023 season soon. A fourth new baseball program, Wilberforce University, won’t begin until early March.
