Alcorn State Baseball Athlete Jack Butler Named Radio Personality of the Year

Freshman baseball first baseman Jack Butler was awarded the Radio Personality of the Year award from the Alcorn State University Mass Communications Department. The mass communication major was presented to him on Media Day by Instructor Larry Sanders.

During the spring 2022 semester, Butler hosted a radio show on WPRL 97.1 every Wednesday. He played music, provided information and updates on events happening on campus, and interview students on various topics of interest.

“I am proud of the award,” said Butler of the recognition. “Being recognized amongst the attendees which included a mixture of local and state broadcast personalities, both radio and television, is a major honor.”

Beginning fall 2022, Butler will work with Mr. Sanders to host his own baseball podcast. He will bring on guest to discuss everything and anything baseball. It will be an examination of baseball events and the culture. He hopes that the experiences that he garners here at Alcorn will jumpstart his career as a sports analyst/broadcaster.
