Albany State Malik Barrington Signs Contract With United Shore Professional Baseball League

Albany State University baseball’s Malik Barrington has signed a contract to play in the United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL). Barrington will play for the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers.

“I am so proud of Malik and what he has been able to accomplish.  This is a great example of hard work paying off as Malik has been our hardest worker and most dedicated player the last three years and it has truly paid off for him by signing a professional contract.  Malik is the model player to what we want our future Golden Rams to look up to in the way Malik conducted himself both on and off the field.  Malik showed up every day to improve and completely made himself into a different player from the time he got here in the fall of 2018 until the time he left in the spring of 2021.  I have no doubt that Malik will be extremely successful and I just pray he gets an opportunity to sign with a Major League organization.” said ASU Head Baseball Coach Scot Hemmings.

Malik, a native of Jacksonville, Florida, has received numerous Southern Intercollegiate Athletics Conference honors and awards. Barrington has played the last years as a Golden Rams. Over his collegiate playing career Malik has played a total of 27 games, has only allowed 116 hits, 72 runs and has struck out 168 in 612 batters faced. He has pitched a total of 141.2 innings.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to play professional baseball in such an exciting league,” said Barrington. “I am very thankful for all the support from my family, friends, and teammates along the way. I wouldn’t have been able to do it without them.”

The USPBL season will start on May 28th and will run until September 13th. All games will be played at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica, Michigan. The Golden Rams baseball program has had 38 players to sign contract with MLB teams since 2016. You can watch the games by clicking HERE.
