Morehouse Receives Votes in National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Region Poll

A quick 4-1 start to its 2023 season has Morehouse University receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) NCAA Division II South Region Top 10 on Wednesday. This marks Morehouse’s first-ever national baseball ranking on any poll.

The Maroon Tigers are currently on a four-game winning streak having beat Clark Atlanta University twice, Voorhees College, and Wilberforce University. Its last game against Lincoln University resulted in a 8-8 tie.

Since head coach Antonio Grissom’s hiring, the Maroon Tigers have developed into a consistent competitor in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC).

Garnering votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) DII South Region Poll is a step up for the Morehouse baseball program.

The SIAC announced this week its weekly conference awards. Morehouse freshman infielder Timothy Whiteman finished with a batting average of .444. He had a two-run homers in a win against Clark Atlanta and had a double and two runs scored in a 7-3 win over Voorhees.

Morehouse University has a chance to crack into both the NCBWA Top 10 and Black College Nines Top 10 poll (when the first BCN rankings will be released on March 7, 2023).

Savannah State University (2-1) is also receiving votes in the latest NCBWA South Region. The Tigers were ranked 10th last week but fell from the regional rankings.
