Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball – Week Six

Black College Nines continues its Historically Black College and University (HBCU) baseball season Who’s Hot In HBCU Baseball for week six as we look at the players and pitchers who had a good week and who stood out in their weekend series from this past week’s top performers.

HBCU Large School Division

Florida A&M University – For the week the Rattlers went 3-1 while sweeping conference foe Savannah State over the weekend. FAMU received votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top 30 NCAA Division Poll this week with a record of 14-5.

Ben EllzeyPosition Players – Ben Ellzey (Senior 3B) For the week, Ellzey had an .875 slugging percentage and a .474 on base percentage with a .438 batting average, 4 runs, 7 hits, 1 double, 2 home runs and 8 runs batted helping FAMU sweep Savannah State University.

 

 

FAMU JoJo DurdenPitcher – JoJo Durden (Senior LHP) In game one of the series with Savannah State tied a career high in strikeouts with 7. In that 7-5 win, he finished with a 3.18 earned run average, allowed 6 hits, 4 runs and 2 earned runs improving his record to 3-0 thus far for the season.

 

 

HBCU Small School Division

Jarvis Christian College – Swept conference foe Wiley College in its three-game series backed by strong pitching and timely hitting.

Spencer ThomasPosition Player – Spencer Thomas (Junior OF) Helped Jarvis Christian in the aweep of Wiley, 5 runs, 6 hits, 3 runs batted in during the weekend series.

 

 

 

joseph_lyallPitcher – Joseph Lyall (Junior RHP/OF) In defeating Wiley, Lyall pitched a gem, 5.1 innings pitched, 2 hits, 2 runs, 2 earned runs and 8 strikeouts in the Bulldog win.
