Virginia State Baseball’s Merrill Morgan Collects Coaching Milestone Win

Virginia State University head baseball coach Merrill Morgan notched his 300th career coaching victory in a doubleheader win taking both games by the same 10-9 score over Salem University this past February 3rd.

During his tenure at VSU, Morgan has guided VSU to four Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Championships in 2004, 2007, 2008, and 2009, while leading Virginia State to its only NCAA Division II Regional Tournament appearance in 2007. Morgan is a 1986 graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University, and hit .308 for the Rams his junior season.

Morgan is in his fifteen season as the head coach of the Trojans. A native of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Morgan was a baseball and basketball star in high school. He has built a good relationships within the Virginia State local community for what he has accomplished on the baseball diamond and pushes student athletes to make an impact in their lives.

Morgan enjoys helping young players develop the game of baseball and coaching in the Virginia area.
