Top HBCU Impact Freshmen Baseball Players For 2019

Black College Nines has assimilated this year’s class of incoming freshman ball players at HBCU baseball programs from coaches’ high school recruiting reports and information gathered from college head coaches and sports information departments including reports on their fall ball performances and the impact each could have on this coming season. Based upon these factors, below we identify the top freshmen impact players for 2019…

 

Grambling State – Warren Laster, an All-District/All–State outfielder from Manvel High School in Houston, Texas, will be given a chance to contribute early as a freshmen. Played really good during fall ball, has shown patient at the plate with speed to boost.

 

 


Mississippi Valley State University – LHP Ashton Spurgeon, Good arm and command of his pitches. Will be depended upon as a starter in the pitching rotation who should get a good amount of innings. Added pop to his arm since leaving high school.

 

Mississippi Valley State University – Gerald Pintarich RHP, Good arm and command of his pitches. Has all the tools to come in and compete right away at the collegiate level.

 

 


Coppin State University – Freshman sensation Matthew Day (OF) cannon of an arm, station to station speed, gap speed in the outfield, hits a ton to all fields with power. Followed by 60 college teams, including (20) NCAA D3, (12) NCAA D1, (10) NAIA, (9) NCAA D2, (6) NJCAA D1, (2) NJCAA D3 and (1) NJCAA D2 college programs. Choose Coppin Jr. year in high school.

 


Kentucky State University – Power hitting third base Josh Graves will be in the lineup opening day. Solid opposite field and gap contact.

 

 

 


Edward Waters College – RHP Levi Sigler will fill the role of a starting RHP with multiple pitches and great control. The usage of his pitching ability has allowed him to step in and contribute right away.

 

 

 


Jarvis Christian College – Anthony Orta LHP/OF do it all player will be a legit two way player. Was a JUCO All American at Brookhaven JC. Front end starter and can hit anywhere in a lineup.

 

 


Norfolk State University – James Deloatch LHP/Outfield among the freshman to keep an eye on.

 

 

 


LeMoyne-Owen College – Jamarion White INF. White was one of the top players in the inner-city of Memphis, TN last year having graduated from Whitehaven High School.
