Tigers Secure First Home Season Opener Victory

Grambling, La.—Grambling State scored eight runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat Wiley College 12-2 Wednesday afternoon at R.W.E. Jones Park. The Tigers finished the contest with 13 hits, while Wiley College tallied seven.

Coleman McKinney(1-3) picked up the win for the Tigers, allowing four hits, one earned run and striking out two in the 19 batters faced.  GSU had three more pitchers to toe the rubber.  Creighton Hoover pitched one inning  allowing one hit ,and striking out one.  Jaiden France pitched one inning of relief, allowing two hits and striking out one, followed by Desmond Stegall, who pitched one inning and striking out two in the three batters he faced.

Angel Peguero gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead as he scored on a Diamyn Hall single to first base in the bottom of the first inning. Followed by Hall scoring which put the score at 2-0.

Wiley College scored in the competition at the top of the sixth inning with Trevor Spear scoring the run. In the bottom of the eighth inning, GSU plated six runs in the inning for the 12-2 finale.

Next, the Grambling State University Tigers will travel to New Orleans to compete in the MLB Urban Youth Invitational that will take place Feb. 20th -22nd.
