HOUSTON- The Texas Southern Tigers baseball team received another accolade this past week as the NCAA announced that the Tigers are the 2015 recipients of the NCAA Division I Statistical Champion Award for Most Stolen Bases per game.

“Anytime you can have your program recognized as one of the best in the country in any statistical category it’s a significant milestone,” said TSU head coach Michael Robertson. “Our team worked really hard throughout the year to be the best they could possibly be in everything they did. This award represents a part of the dedication and hard work it took to become Southwestern Athletic Conference Champions.”

Last season Texas Southern won the SWAC behind the leadership of former Tigers outfielder Zach Welz, former shortstop Robert Garza and current second baseman Ryan Lazo. Lazo and Jerry Ford were both big contributors to the Tigers success on the base paths.

“Ford and Lazo each possess great instincts on base,” said Robertson. They both have great awareness and are true students of the game of baseball.”

Texas Southern Tigers Baseball will have a few more weeks off before starting Fall conditioning drills in the upcoming weeks as they prepare for the 2016 campaign.
