Southern University’s Tyler LaPorte Named Collegiate Baseball All-American

Collegiate Baseball, the voice of amateur baseball, announced its annual NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams and National Player of The Year list. The awards are given to the best Division I athletes by their performance on the field during the regular season up to the regionals. The honors are given out by the staff of Collegiate Baseball which is a national publication based in Arizona. It is considered the oldest college reporting newspaper which ranks the top 30 teams throughout the season and at the end of the College World Series.

The Collegiate Baseball Player of the Year and All-American baseball teams have been given annually by Collegiate Baseball since 1957.

Southern University’s third baseman Tyler LaPorte made the third team All-American list this season. In all, Laporte was chosen with the 33-man third team from 31 Division I schools that are represented on the All-America team honored as the top amateur baseball players in the country with the Collegiate Baseball award.

LaPorte, recently named Black College Nines’ HBCU Baseball Player of the Year and BCN All-Elite Team First-Team, shared Co-Player of the Year honors in the SWAC Conference after leading the Jaguars team to both the regular season division and conference championships.

LaPorte hit .389 on the season, leading the league in hits (93) and doubles (17) while stealing 21 bases. LaPorte scored 60 runs and hit six home runs while driving in 64 RBIs and slugging .577 on the season. LaPorte was nationally ranked in NCAA individual statistics: 34th in batting average, 5th in hits, 4th in hits per game, 25th in runs batted in and 41st in runs scored.

LaPorte also was a standout fielder at third base. In 53 games, he had a 0.945 fielding percentage with 101 fielding assists.

Collegiate Baseball is a national magazine that is published twice a month from January until June, and then once each in September and October. The NCAA Division I All-American baseball teams was powered by Diamond, were announced today.
