LeMoyne Owen College Baseball Ushers In The Smith Era

Coach Marcus SmithMarcus Smith joins the LeMoyne Owen College baseball staff as head coach announced by the Athletic Department. Smith comes to the program from Morehouse College where he was an assistant baseball coach during the 2014 and 2015 season. Smith had a stint at LeMoyne Owen, served as an assistant baseball coach in 2013.

The Magicians are excited to add Smith to lead its baseball program. He has demonstrated coaching success one of several factors that led to the decision to hire him as the leader of the LeMoyne Owen baseball program. His vision for the program, his passion for the academic success of the young men he will coach and community service already in Memphis, Tennessee.

A native of College Park, Georgia, Smith received his Bachelor’s degree from Albany State University. Past coaching experience includes the Atlanta Sports Academy, head baseball coach in 2011 and was an Infield instructor for LEAD inner city organization from 2010-2012.

He was instrumental in teaching the game of baseball to inner city youth, who were not exposed to the sport during this time. Worked with Marquis Grissom, Jason Hayward, and other doing clinics for inner city kids.  Also, Smith was an assistant at Clark Atlanta University from 2007-2009.

The addition of Coach Smith, LeMoyne Owen has the potential to be one of the finest baseball teams in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) looking forward to competing for a conference championship in the near future to produce a team and individuals who are competing at the highest level.
