Atlanta, Ga. — One might look at the final score of the Clark Atlanta University Panthers baseball game today against Morehouse College and think that it was a one-sided affair, but the 17-8 score in favor of MC doesn’t indicate how close the game actually was.
Going into the bottom of the eighth the Panthers led 8-to-7, and looked destined to get their first win of the season. The Maroon Tigers would have something to say about that however, ripping off 10-runs in the bottom half of the eighth, including a three-run home run by Jared Maner. CAU would only be able to answer with one base runner in the top half of the final frame.
Sophomore Joseph Holmes pitched the first six innings of the contest for Clark Atlanta, giving up seven runs along the way. Cole Gibson got the win for MC while getting the last seven outs of the game.
The Panthers return to the field this Saturday and Sunday, March 7th and 8th, as they travel to Columbia, South Carolina, to take on Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) foe Benedict College. The doubleheader on Saturday is scheduled to start at 12 pm, with the lone game on Sunday scheduled for 1 pm.
