The Kentucky State baseball team is off to a good start this season and has garned votes this week. The Thorobreds are receiving votes in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Poll for NCAA Division II baseball. It is the first time in school history that the Thorobreds are receiving votes in the baseball national poll.
KSU is receiving votes in the South Region. The Thorobreds current record is 8-2. With a tough non-conference schedule, Kentucky State continues play this weekend when they go on the road to play Oakland City University in Oakland City, Indiana in a three-game series March 9-10 with Saturday being a scheduled doubleheader.
Following splitting a doubleheader with Salem University last weekend, the baseball team continues on the road, looking strong heading into two back to back tough non conference games against NCAA Division I programs, Murray State University (March 12th) in Murray, KY and Eastern Kentucky University (March 13th) in Richmond, KY. Then they open SIAC play March 16-17 with two back to back doubleheads against Morehouse University in Atlanta to start their conference season.
The team seems like everybody is finding their role and how they can help the team win. Their success early in the season has head coach Rob Henry eager to see where the conference season takes them. Into his seventh season as the skipper, Henry is excited to see how the players find their place on the field before their conference season.
Overall, they have a mix of young and older players on the team. This allows players to take on new leadership roles on the field, but also poses the challenges of finding the right place on the team for each new player. While the team’s youth brings challenges, they are optimistic about this season and the team dynamic. especially heading into conference play.
