Former Lincoln Lions Baseball Player Michael Howard Signs Professional Contract

Former Lincoln baseball player Michael Howard (Bronx, N.Y./Utica College) has signed a professional contract with the Westside Woolly Mammoths of the United Shore Professional Baseball League (USPBL).

The USPBL is an independent developmental league that has seen 25 players signed to major league organizations over the past three seasons.

Howard, a three year player for the Lions who graduated from Lincoln in 2017, signed a free agent contract and will report for spring training in Utica, Michigan on April 27.

The Woolly Mammoths play their games at Jimmy Johns Field in Utica and will open their season on May 11 and continue until the end of August.  The newest of the USPBL teams, the Woolly Mammoths were first team from the league to have a play mentioned on ESPN’s Top 10  in May 2018.

Howard appeared in 68 games for the Lions over three seasons, starting 60. He had his best season as a senior in 2017, recording 24 hits and driving in 15 runs.  A shortstop/second baseman for the Lions, Howard set the school’s single season mark for assists in 2017 with 74, playing in all 39 games (ties the school record).  He finished his career as one of just six players in program history to record 100 or more assists in the field.
