WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State University Rams got exceptional pitching today, and timely hits as the Rams swept two games from Bluefield State, at B&T Ballpark.

With the wins, Winston-Salem State improves to 22-12 overall, while Bluefield State falls to 10-17 overall.

In the first game, Randy Norris went three for four to lead the WSSU Rams, with a run scored and a run batted in.  Brandon Ford went two for four with a run batted in and Ivan Acuna finished one for two with two runs batted in

WSSU got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning, when after loading the bases, Ivan Acuna would be hit by a pitch, scoring Willie McCrae.

Bluefield State answered with a two run single from Justin Bowler in the top of the fourth.

The Rams would wait until the bottom of the sixth to take the lead back, when after a couple of walks, Randy Norris singled to left field, scoring Michael McNamara, and Brandon Ford then singled to right, scoring Matt Mauldin. on the third consecutive hit, Ivan Acuna singled, allowing Randy Norris to score, and gave the Rams a 4-2 lead heading into the last inning.

WSSU’s Landon Steiner, shut the Big Blues down in the seventh to give the Rams the win.

Willie McCrae went one for three with a run scored, and Matt Mauldin added a run. Michael McNamara went one for two with a run scored and Landon Steiner went one for two.

Kanoa Hironaka got the win for WSSU, going 6.0 innings, allowing eight hits and two runs, while striking out five Bluefield State batters. Landon Stiner picked up the save, with three strikeouts in the seventh.

In game two, the Rams got going early, scoring two first inning runs. Landon Steiner singled to left field, scoring Emilio Abreu and Ivan Acuna.

WSSU put it away in the third inning, when they scored six times on four hits and got the help of two errors. After reaching on an error, Ivan Acuna came home on a double by Landon Steiner. Back to back singles from Trevor Poole and Matt Mauldin allowed Steiner and Randal Ortiz to come home. Randy Norris tripled scoring Poole and Mauldin, and Norris scored on a passed ball.

The Rams added to their lead in the fourth, when after back to back walks, Ivan Acuna and Randal Ortiz scored, and Randy Norris brought Michael McNamara home on a sac fly to right field.

The Big Blues scored in the top of fifth, on a Peyton Durham ground out to shortstop, scoring Chaz Rutherford.

Winston-Salem State got two more runs in top of the bottom of the inning, when Randal Ortiz doubled, scoring Ivan Acuna and Garrison Roy, who came in to pinch run for Landon Steiner.

WSSU would pick up their final two runs in the sixth, when Emilio Abreu hit a sac fly to left field, scoring Brandon Ford. Ivan Acuna also scored in the inning, to give WSSU the 15-1 win.

Landon Steiner finished three for four with a run scored and three runs batted in, and Randy Norris went one for four with a run scored and three runs batted in. Randal Ortiz went one for three with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Trevor Poole and Matt Mauldin each went one for three with a run scored and two runs batted in. Emilio Abreu scored a run and batted in a run. Ivan Acuna scored five runs and had two hits. Brandon Ford went one for two with a run scored.

Seth Reeves got the win, pitching 5.0 innings, allowing two hits, one run, and one walk. Reeves struck out five. James Martin saw action in relief, striking out two.
