WINSTON-SALEM, NC – WSSU completed a four game weekend sweep from the Lincoln Lions, behind a strong plate approaches and solid pitching to again cruise to a 14-3 and 10-2 wins today at BB&T Ballpark.

With the wins, WSSU improves to 16-11 overall and 6-0 in the CIAA, while Lincoln falls to 5-17 overall and 1-6       in the CIAA.

In game one, Landon Steiner went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and five runs batted in, including a home run and Randy Norris was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and four runs batted in, including a grand slam home run. Randal Ortiz also went 2 for 3 with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Ivan Acuna was 3 for 4 with three runs scored and Michael McNamara went 1 for 3 with a run scored and Matt Mauldin was 1 for 4 with a run scored. Brandon ford went 1 for 5 w3ith a run scored. Acuna, Steiner, McNamara and Mauldin also each had a double.

Landon Biggs picked up the win for WSSU, going 5.0 innings allowing four runs, three walks and had two strikeouts. James Martin also got action out of the bullpen, pitching 2.0 innings allowing a hit a run while walking four.

In game number two on the day, the Rams got going early, as they were able to score six times in the first inning, taking the wind out of the sails of the Lincoln Lions.

Randy Norris singled and promptly stole second base and third. Brandon Ford grounded out, but picked up the run batted in when Norris scored. Emilio Abreu and John Garcia would single, and Landon Steiner would double to left center scoring both Abreu and Garcia. After a Randal Ortiz walk, Michael McNamara would homer  to left field, scoring three runs and giving WSSU a commanding 6-0 advantage.

WSSU kept swinging hot bats in the second inning, when Brandon Ford walked then stole second. Ivan Acuna would hit his second home run of the day, a deep blast to left center field to give the Rams an 8-0 lead.

Lincoln would push across a run in the third inning, on a hit.

Winston-Salem State would score a run in the fourth inning, when Ivan Acuna would hit a sacrifice fly to center field, allowing Brandon Ford to score, and closing out all the scoring in the game, at 9-1.

Ivan Acuna and Michael McNamara led the way with 3 runs batted in each, and Acuna going 1 for 2 with a run scored and McNamara finishing 2 for 3 with two runs scored. Landon Steiner went 2 for 3 with a run scored and two runs batted in. John Garcia went 1 for 2 with a run scored and Brandon Ford finished 1 for 3 with a run scored and a run batted in. Emilio Abreu and Randy Norris each went 1 for 4 with a run scored. Randal Ortiz finished 1 for 2 with a run scored.

In game two, WSSU got started early, after a Randy Norris walk, Brandon Ford would bring him home with a two run home run to right field. Emilio Abreu would triple to center and would be brought home on an Ivan Acuna sacrifice fly to left field, in the first inning.

The Rams picked up another run in the second, when Randy Norris would score on a passed ball.

Lincoln would plate two runs in the third to cut into the WSSU lead, 4-2.

WSSU got two more runs in the fourth, when Brandon Ford tripled, allowing Willie McCrae to score, and Ford would eventually come home on a wild pitch.

In the fifth inning, Landon Steiner doubled down the left field line and would come around to score on a wild pitch.

Winston-Salem State put the game away in the sixth, when Randy Norris tripled and would come home on a Brandon Ford sacrifice fly. Emilio Abreu walked and would come home on a Ivan Acuna double. Acuna would come around to score on a wild pitch, ending the scoring in the game, at 10-2.

Brandon Ford paced the Rams going 2 for 3 with two runs scored and four runs batted in, while Emilio Abreu went 3 for 3 with two runs scored. Ivan Acuna was 1 for 3 with a run scored and two runs batted in and Randy Norris went 1 for 2 with three runs scored. Landon Steiner finished 1 for 2 with a run scored and Willie McCrae was 1 for 3 with a run scored. Emilio Abreu, Ivan Acuna and Landon Steiner each had a double, and Randy Norris, Brandon Ford and Emilio Abreu each had a triple. Brandon Ford also had a home run.

The Rams used five pitchers in the game to get some work in, and Jonathan Cummings picked up the win allowing one hit, three walks and two strikeouts. Marcus McKoy, Corbin Easter, Garrison Roy and Will Beeson all took the mound for WSSU.
