SHREVEPORT, La. – The Wiley College baseball team overcame an early deficit and took control of the game late to defeat Louisiana State University-Shreveport 11-5 in the finale of a Red River Athletic Conference series Saturday at Pilot Field.

With the victory, the Wildcats (9-12, 3-6 in RRAC) snap a five-game road losing streak and a 17-game series losing streak against the Pilots. Wiley College gives LSU-Shreveport its first loss in conference play and equals its win total from last season. It was the ninth come-from-behind win for the Wildcats this season.

Wiley College recorded 11 hits with four players recording multiple hits. Justice Brown (JR/Sugarland, Texas) went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Tyler Baumann (JR/Houston, Texas) went 2-for-3 with two RBI. He hit a game-tying RBI triple in the sixth and drove in a run with a bases loaded walk in the ninth. Luis Santiago (SO/Salinas, Puerto, Rico) went 2-for-5 with a two-RBI single in the fifth. Justin Harmon (SR/Beaumont, Texas) went 2-for-4 and hit a go-ahead two-RBI single in the seventh.

Brandon Bilnoski (JR/Marshall, Texas) made his third start of the season. He went eight innings – throwing 159 pitches. He allowed five runs on nine hits, with seven walks, three hit batters and five strikeouts. Bilnoski pitched five straight scoreless innings to help the Wildcats come back and take the lead.

In the fifth and eighth inning, Bilnoski worked out of bases loaded situations. He got a fly out to end the fifth inning. After giving up a run in the eighth on a double, two walks and a fielder’s choice loaded the bases. Bilnoski got a fly out to end the inning and preserve the Wildcats’ one-run lead.

“It feels good to get this win after letting the second game slip away,” head coach Kendrick Biggs said. “The guys are starting to buy in and they are seeing we can play with anyone. We just have to keep getting better every week.”

The Pilots (18-12, 8-1 in RRAC) struck first by scoring four runs on four hits in the first two innings. Wiley College only put up three hits through the first four innings. In the fifth inning, the Wildcats began their rally.

Darian Fleming (JR/Beaumont, Texas) led off the inning with a walk. Angel Rivera (SO/New Orleans, Louisiana) and Baumann singled to load the bases. With one out, Brian Scott Jr. (SR/New Orleans, Louisiana) was hit by a pitch – which brought home Fleming. Santiago followed with a two-RBI single to right. Fleming walked with one out in the sixth and tied the game by scoring on Baumann’s triple to right.

With two outs in the seventh inning, Ruben Hancock (SO/Sugarland, Texas) started a rally with a walk. Brown advanced Hancock into scoring position with a single to right. A wild pitch advanced both runners. Harmon brought both runners home hitting a single to left.

Entering the ninth with their lead intact, the Wildcats added insurance runs. Two came home via bases loaded walks drew by Angel Rivera and Baumann. Reis Calvin (FR/Chicago, Illinois) – who pinch hit for Dominic Tezeno (FR/Orange, Texas) gave Wiley College much needed breathing room with a two-RBI single. An error brought home a third run on the play.

Joshua Simon (SO/New Iberia, Louisiana) pitched the ninth and after allowing the Pilots to load the bases with two outs, got a fly out to seal the game.

The Wildcats return home to host Jarvis Christian College on Friday. The Bulldogs swept a four-game series with Houston-Victoria.
