Wiley Wildcats Begin Road Swing At No. 4 Faulkner

The Wiley College baseball team prepares for a 12-game road trip which starts with a three-game series at Faulkner University (Ala.) – which is ranked No. 4 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics Top 25 poll Friday through Sunday.

Friday’s game starts at 7 p.m. Saturday’s contest begins at 2 p.m. The series ends with a noon start on Sunday. This series will be the Wildcats’ first against a ranked opponent since playing Texas Wesleyan when they were ranked No. 13 on April 25, 2017.

Wiley College (7-3) is coming off a 3-1 series victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God University. It scored 21 runs on 30 hits. Manuel Torres (SO/Winter Haven, Florida) hit 5-for-12 with three runs and three RBIs. Ruben Hancock (JR/Sugarland, Texas) hit the Wildcats first home run of the season in the second game. Carlos Torres (SO/Winter Haven, Florida) racked up four RBIs in the series finale.

Three of the four Wildcat starting pitchers throw into the seventh inning. Brandon Bilnoski (SR/Marshall, Texas) and Austin Rotramel (JR/Plano, Texas) pitched complete games with double-digit strikeout performances of 10 and 13, respectively. Rotramel was one away from Emmanuel Pantaleon’s season-high of 14. Noah Whitted (SO/Silsbee, Texas) picked up his second win of the season throwing six-plus innings in the series finale.

Faulkner (5-2) reached the 2018 NAIA World Series and made it to the final six. This season they are coming off a three-game sweep over Georgetown College (Ky.) Max Guzman is the Eagles top hitter with a .522 batting average. He has hit two home runs, driving in 11 and scored four. Marcus Ragan follows with a .421 batting average.

On the mound, Faulkner is led by Evan Gillespie who hasn’t given up a run in two starts. He has struck out 13 batters and only surrendered five hits and one walk. Antonio Frias leads the team with 21 strikeouts in two starts.

After this weekend’s series, the Wildcats will travel to Wayland Baptist for a four-game set from February 22-23.
