PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lions scored a total of seven runs in the first two innings and took care of business in game two of the three-game series with an 11-1 victory in seven innings over Prairie View A&M at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex in Southwestern Athletic Conference play. The win marks the second straight victory for UAPB. The team will look to complete the sweep over Prairie View with a final game on Easter Sunday.

The Golden Lions got on board first as Sergio Esparza generated a two-RBI double to left field that scored Nick Kreutzer along with teammate Ryan MallisonJacob Columbo then produced an RBI-double of his own to bring in Esparza, giving UAPB a quick 3-0 lead. Moments later, Columbo was involved in a series of bizarre plays that resulted in him scoring after nearly getting caught stealing third base. By a mere miracle, Columbo somehow managed to avoid getting tagged out as he first slid into third base, then later stole home on what first seemed as a bad decision but ended up looking like a genius as he touched home plate, pushing UAPB’s lead to 4-0.

In the second inning, freshman Jar Parker yanked a two-RBI single to center field that drove in both John Magnuson and Cutter McDonald. Columbo then produced an RBI sacrifice fly to center field that advanced Parker to third and brought home Mallison. Prarie View answered  back in the third inning by scoring its only run in the game.

In the fifth, Manguson brought home Columbo with an RBI-single to right field. In the sixth inning, UAPB added another run as the freshman Parker hit a solo shot to left field. Columbo then doubled to left field as Kreutzer scored for the Golden Lions.

In the seventh, Kreutzer was back at bat and had the bases loaded as Parker stood on firs base, Mallison was on second and Magnuson on third. Kreutzer hung in the battle and eventually took a base on balls as the game ended 11-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Parker finished the game 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI while fellow Golden Lion Columbo went 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. UAPB pitcher Peyton Burks (1-3) was credited with his first win of the season while Tyler Laux picked up the loss for the Panthers (6-16, 3-8 SWAC) with only 1.2 innings pitched. Burks struck out three batters and went the distance, giving up just five hits and one earned run all game.

UAPB (9-12, 6-5 SWAC) returns to action on Easter Sunday for game three of the SWAC series against Prairie View. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the Torii Hunter Baseball Complex.
