Box Score PINE BLUFF, Ark. (March 5) – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Baseball team defeated Grambling State, 8-2 to win the three-game series, 2-1 here Sunday afternoon at the Torii Hunter Baseball, Softball and Little League Complex.

UAPB recorded 15 hits in the contest, whereas the Golden Lions’ pitching staff held GSU to four.

The Golden Lions had three players to finish with three hits each in Aderly Perez, Jordan Knox and Dontrell Brown.

GSU had three four players to finish with one hit each.

Tyrus Lopez (1-2) the UAPB starter received the win.  He gave up two hits, one earned runs and striking out two in eight innings of work.  Lopez did not yield a hit to GSU until the top of the seventh inning.  C.J. Lewington toed the rubber for UAPB.  He pitched one inning in relief, allowing one hit and striking out one in the five batters he faced.

Isaac O’Bear (1-2) the GSU starter received the loss for the Tigers.  In his outing on the mound, he gave up nine hits, three earned runs and striking out three in five and two-third innings of work.   Raul Baduel also saw action on the mound for the GSU.  He pitched two and two-third innings, allowing six hits, and three earned runs in the 16 batters he faced.

UAPB jumped out to a 3-0 lead with the Golden Lions plating three runs in the bottom of the second inning.  Juan Pablo Soriano scored the first run of the inning on a Knox sacrifice fly to centerfield.  Then Perez would score on a Brown double to left field, followed by an Austin Grier single scoring Brown.

Chris Perez scored GSU’s first run of the contest on a Wesley Drain ground out to the short shot, cutting UAPB’s lead to 3-1 in the top of the first inning.

UAPB increased their lead to 5-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning on a Brown single up the middle scoring both Knox and Perez.

The Golden Lions made the score 8-1 with UAPB plating three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning with both Perez and Soriano scoring on a Knox triple to left field .  Then Knox would score on a Brown single.

GSU plated one more run in the top of the ninth inning for the 8-2 finale.
