UAPB Baseball Takes Game 1 At Alabama A&M

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff baseball team won 7-3 Friday at Alabama A&M in the first of a three-game non-conference series.

Nick Kreutzer, the SWAC’s leading home run hitter, hit his seventh of the season, a three-run shot in the second inning that put the Golden Lions ahead to stay, 4-1. Kreutzer, Justin Robinson, and Larry Sims each had two hits for the Golden Lions.

Will Smith hurled seven strong innings, allowing seven hits and three runs, walking three and striking out seven, the most by a Golden Lion pitcher this year.

Leading 5-3, UAPB extended its lead in the sixth. Tywan Mackey Jr. singled, and Braelin Hence walked to lead off the inning. With two outs, Ryan Mallison reached on an error, allowing Mackey to score, as Hence advanced to third. Sims’ RBI single scored Hence for the final margin.

The teams will play game two of the series Saturday at 3 p.m., with game three Sunday at 1 p.m. Live stats for both games will be available via and on the UAPB Athletics App.
