Two-Out Rallies Lift Jarvis Christian Bulldogs Past Saints In Opener

Hawkins, Texas – Baseball opened their Red River Athletic Conference series against Our Lady of the Lake University at home in Hawkins, on Friday, March 31, 2017. The Bulldogs came into play with a record of 19-18, RRAC 7-5, and the Saints with a record of 12-18, RRAC 5-5.

After a pair of two out singles by Carlos Andrade (SR/Pasadena, TX) and CJ Tyler (FR/Van Alstyne, TX), Santos Abreu (JR/Brooklyn, NY) would step to the plate with an opposite field three run home run to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 lead heading into the 2nd inning of play. Joe Diaz would lead things off for OLLU with a triple to deep right center and would score on a Seth Garcia groundball to first, trimming the JCC lead, 3-1. JCC would get that run back in the bottom half on an RBI single by DeAndre McGuire (SR/Houston, TX).

After a 1-2-3 inning for the Saints, JCC would tack on to their lead with a Chandler Matthews (FR/Highland Village, TX) RBI double in the 3rd, pushing the JCC lead to 5-1. Jerry Flores would go on to retire the next nine Saints hitters, as JCC would add more in the 6th as Carlos Andrade would round the bases on a 2 RBI inside the park homerun to deep right center field.

Spencer Thomas (JR/Oakdale, CA) would continue to keep the Saints off the bases with a spectacular diving catch in left field, as Flores would go on to retire the next two batters. In the bottom half of the 7th inning, OLLU would see a pitching change with Garrett Moltzan taking the mound, keeping JCC off the scoreboard.

The Saints would reach base in the 9th off an Enrique Ruiz III double down the left field line with one out, followed by a walk. Flores would be done for the day, as Noel Sanchez (JR/Riverbank, CA) would come into pitch. Flores would finish the day allowing just 2 hits through 8.1 innings of work, while striking out 8 and walking 2. Sanchez would retire the next batter before Orlando Collado would trim the deficit, 7-4, with a 3 run homerun off the left center field capping. Sanchez would go on to strike out the next batter to secure the win and pick up the save for the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs (20-18, RRAC 8-5) will finalize their series with the Saints (12-19, RRAC 5-6) tomorrow, April 1, 2017, at home in Hawkins. First pitch of the double-header is set for 12pm.
