Tuskegee Sports Information
Tuskegee University baseball student-assistant, Kendreala Cobb has been accepted by the St. Louis Cardinals to participate in the club’s First Pitch Program July 15-18 in St. Louis, Mo. Cobb, a rising senior helped with many of team’s the behind-the-scenes organizational tasks this past season.
The First Pitch program was created to introduce and prepare diverse college students for careers in baseball. Once Cobb arrives next month, she will focus on key areas such as industry exposure, knowledge of the Cardinals’ organization as an employer, professional networking, interview-skill development, resume building, and sales-specific training that could ultimately lead to a successful transition into entry level positions with the organization. The four-day program will introduce participants to the world of sports and prepares them for future careers.
“I am very excited about having the opportunity to work with the St. Louis Cardinals and its First Pitch program.” Cobb noted. I also understand that working with coach Hollins and Tuskegee baseball likely increased my chances of getting selected. He has taught me many things I never knew about the sport of baseball all while offering me words of wisdom and advice that I will take with me throughout the years to come.” Said Cobb.
In order to qualify for the First Pitch Program, applicants had to be enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college/university with a senior level status or recent graduate, demonstrate leadership, community involvement and a desire to pursue a career in sports; preferably baseball.
“Kendreala is what I call a utility player for our program,” TU head baseball coach Reginald Hollins said. “She helps us daily as an office assistant, coordinating special events and even compiling statistics in the team’s dugout.” Hollins stated.
