COLUMBIA, S.C. – Three former Benedict College baseball players were selected by the Plattsburgh Redbirds of the Empire Professional Baseball League.

Outfielder Andrew McCoy, infielder Armando Valentin and former pitcher Devon Lemon were selected by the independent baseball team. The team is being managed by Benedict head baseball coach Selwyn Young. Selwyn Brandon Young, his son and another former Benedict baseball player, will serve as a player and assistant coach.

The Redbirds are the defending champions of the EPBL, a Rookie to Class A level of minor league baseball and meant to give players out of college or little pro experience the true opportunity at staying in shape and providing them the chance at being signed to higher level league contracts with affiliated or independent teams. Teams are located in New York, Maine and Puerto Rico.

The season opens Wednesday. For more information on the team, go to redbirdsprobaseball.com
