Talladega Tandem Earns Baseball Player Of The Week Honors

NEW ORLEANS  -The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the first full week of the 2016 baseball season.  Talladega infielder Juan Marmol was named Player of the Week and teammate Kyler Chavez earned Pitcher of the Week honors.

GCAC Baseball Player of the Week – Juan Marmol, Talladega, IF, Jr., Santiago, Dominican Republic

Marmol posted a .474 batting average in six games for Talladega. He had two multi-hit games, with 11 RBI, and scored nine runs as the Tornadoes went 5-1. He also drew six walks and went 3-for-3 on stolen base attempts.

GCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week – Kyler Chavez, Talladega, SP, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Chavez made three appearances for the Tornadoes, pitching nine innings, including going seven innings in a 9-3 win over Brewton-Parker (Ga.).  For the week Chavez had a 3.00 earned run average and struck out nine batters while giving up just three hits and walking three batters.

Also Nominated

Jasper James, Jr., IF, Tougaloo – James batted .727 in three games for the Bulldogs.  He had eight hits in 11 at-bats and drove in five runs.
