BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In the final weekly baseball awards of the season, Grambling State’s Rafael Ramirez III and Alcorn State’s Carlos Lopez have been named the Southwestern Athletic Conference’s players of the week after standout efforts this past week.

Hitter of the Week – Ramirez batted .556 against fifth-ranked Arkansas and Northwestern State. He had a .765 on-base percentage and a .889 slugging percentage. In the four games, Ramirez went 5-for-9 at the plate, with one home run (a two-run homer during game one of a doubleheader against Northwestern State). He drove in two runs and scored three times while drawing seven total walks.

Pitcher of the Week – Lopez tossed his second-career complete game in a 5-2 victory over Jackson State during game two of Sunday’s doubleheader. He held the potent Tigers’ lineup to one earned run on seven hits while striking out five over the game. His ERA was 1.00 and Jackson State hit only .226 against him.

Other Notable Performances:
– Grambling State’s Kerry Boykins Jr. made his fourth start of the season and was magnificent in six innings in Grambling State’s 7-6 victory over Northwestern State. Boykins allowed just two runs on four hits and walked two. However, he also fanned a career-high nine batters as the Tigers held on for the 7-6 win.

– Alcorn State’s Kirt Cormier went 7-for-16 with a .438 batting average while hitting for two doubles, three RBIs while scoring three runs. Had a season-high three hits in game one of the doubleheader vs. Jackson State on Sunday.
