NORFOLK, Va. – Fall semester classes began early this week for all NSU athletes. Here is a look at how Spartan baseball players finished the summer off in their respective summer leagues.

Coastal Plain League
Four NSU pitchers helped the Peninsula Pilots finish with the CPL’s best record (38-17) before falling in three games in the best-of-three Petitt Cup championship series. In all, the Spartans had eight players compete in the CPL.

Peninsula Pilots
Devin Hemmerich, LHP: 2-1, 2.65 ERA, 38K in 37.1 IP in regular season. Was named to the CPL All-Star Game.
Robbie Hiser, RHP: 3-1, 0.98 ERA, 8 saves, 27K in 18.1 IP in regular season.
Alex Mauricio, RHP: 2-1, 4.26 ERA, 18K in 19.0 IP in regular season. Also threw one scoreless inning in the playoffs.
Michael Parmentier, RHP: 1-2, 5.09 ERA, 1 save, 37K in 23.0 IP in regular season. Also had two saves and a 0.00 ERA in three post-season appearances, including a save in the Pilots’ Game 1 championship series win.

Martinsville Mustangs
Brian Beard, Utility: .259 average, 7 2B, 16 RBI, 3 SB in 143 at-bats. Beard, who played outfield and three infield positions at various times, also pitched five scoreless innings in two relief appearances on the mound.
Ismael Herrera, C: 20 games played, 15 starts, .122 average, 1 2B, 2 RBI

Petersburg Generals
Stephan Baughan, IF: The incoming NSU freshman and recent Clover Hill High graduate played in three games and had four at-bats as a late-season replacement.

Florence RedWolves
Roger Hall, IF: 19 games played, 12 starts, .216 batting average, 3 2B, 8 RBI, .322 on-base percentage. Hall closed out the summer with Florence, joining the roster for the second half of the season.

Valley League
Denathan Dukes, OF, Purcellville Cannons: 11 games played, .273, 9 runs, 2 2B, 3 RBI, 7 SB, .467 on-base percentage (includes playoffs). Dukes was a late-season addition to the Cannons’ roster. He batted .600 (3-for-5) with three runs scored in two playoff games.

Texas Collegiate League
Syeed Mahdi, OF, Texas Marshals: .242 batting average, 5 2B, 1 3B, 4 RBI, 15 SB, .371 on-base percentage.

Virginia Beach Collegiate League
Tony Leite, OF, Sea Monsters: 28 games played, .293 batting average, 6 2B, 1 3B, 14 RBI, 11 SB. 2016 VBCBL All-Star.
Terrence Pinkston, OF, Sea Monsters: 31 games played, 7 2B, 16 RBI, 12 SB. 2016 VBCBL All-Star selection

Piedmont League
Jonathan Mauricio, RHP, Powhatan (Va.) Coyotes: 1-1, 3.86 ERA, 38K in 35.0 IP.

California Collegiate League
Chris Ford, C, Long Beach Legends: 24 games played, .210 batting average, 3 2B, 1 3B, 4 RBI

Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League
Robbie Depp, 1B, Victor RailRiders (N.Y.): 17 games played, .128 average, 3 RBI
Terrance Pinkston, OF, Amsterdam Mohawks (N.Y.): 6 games played, .313 average, 2 RBI. Pinkston joined Amsterdam late in the season after completing his summer schedule with the Virginia Beach Sea Monsters.
