Corey Brassington And Tyquan Bryant Lead The Falcons With Two RBIs Apiece

CARY, NC – On Saturday, Corey Brassington (Sr./Raleigh, NC) and Tyquan Bryant (So./Henderson, NC) both tallied two RBIs as Saint Augustine’s University beat College of Saint Rose 7-5 in the Division II Baseball Challenge at the USA Baseball National Training Complex. 


In their final game of the Challenge, the Falcons lost to Franklin Pierce University 8-1.


Against Saint Rose, Brassington was 2-for-5 with a double and one run scored in addition to his two RBIs. Bryant was 2-for-4 and Amilcar Yanez (So./Venezuela) was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Chris Zavala (Fr./Fayetteville, NC) was 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored for the Falcons, who amassed 13 hits.


The Falcons quickly erased a 1-0 deficit in the second inning on Bryant’s two-run single which scored Alexis Garcia (Sr./ Maracaibo, Venezuela) and Zavala. They padded their lead in the third when Yanez scored Hector Pichardo (So./Dominican Republic) on a single and Zavala scored Timothy Carter (Sr./Lumberton, NC) on a single for a 4-1 lead.


Saint Rose scored one run in the fifth but the Falcons responded with two runs in the sixth on Brassington’s double which scored Zavala and Carson Davis (So./Oakboro, NC). The Golden Knights (1-10 overall) closed the margin to 6-5 heading into the ninth inning but Carter’s single scored Brassington for the game’s final run. 


CIAA Pitcher of the Week Rickey Rice (R-Sr./Union, SC) picked up the win after scattering eight hits in seven innings. He allowed one earned run, struck out eight and walked two. Carter was credited with the save after striking out two in the ninth inning. Ernie Geraci was 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Golden Knights.


Against Franklin Pierce,

Carter scored the Falcons only run in the loss. He cracked a solo homer over the right field wall in the ninth inning.


Carter finished 2-for-4 with a home run, double, one RBI and one run scored. Harrison Smoske led the Ravens (6-5 overall) with two RBIs.


The Falcons (9-16 overall) begin CIAA play this coming weekend at Lincoln (Pa.) University for a four-game series in Lincoln University, Pa. A doubleheader is scheduled for Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19 with the first game starting at 1 p.m. each day.
