BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southwestern Athletic Conference will broadcast the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff baseball game against Prairie View A&M University live this Sunday, April 12 on its digital network.  The SDN broadcast will begin just before the game’s noon start time on and can be accessed through the SWAC mobile app.

Series Information

Due to rough weather conditions, these two teams have only met twice this season.  The series is split 1-1 with UAPB outscoring the Panthers 26-14 overall.  Prairie View won game one of the doubleheader 9-7, before Pine Bluff’s bats came alive in game two en route to a 19-5 victory.  Arkansas-Pine Bluff leads the series in most statistical categories, including hits (31-19), doubles (11-4), and strikeouts (22-13).  They are hitting .369 as a team and have committed zero errors against the Panthers.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (15-12, 9-3 SWAC)

The Golden Lions are currently riding a four game win streak and have won seven of their last eight SWAC contests to sit atop the west division in first place.  Their confidence is high coming into April after going 2-1 against ranked teams in March, upsetting No. 7 Mississippi State 3-2 (March 3) and No. 23 Missouri 8-3 (March 24).

Offensively they are led by standout Andre Davis.  He is one of three players to play in every game this season and boasts a team-high .371 batting average.  He has earned player of the week honors from College Sports this season and is the league leader in slugging percentage (.649).  The first baseman leads the team in runs (26), hits (36), doubles (10), and RBI (29).  He has also spent time on the mound, making 12 appearances with one start.  Davis is second on the team with a 2.66 ERA and has a 2-1 record.  Josh Cassidy and Vladimir Gomez are the only other Golden Lions to play in every game this season.

UAPB’s bullpen is one of the best in the SWAC right now.  They lead the conference in ERA (4.38), walks allowed (93), and sit third in opponent’s batting average (.275).  Leading the charge is starter Blake Estep.  He has a team-best three wins this season and has pitched a team-high 45.2 innings.  Named SWAC pitcher of the week back on March 31, Estep’s nine starts this season tie for the national high.  UAPB’s top reliever right now is Kevin Walsh with a 2-2 record.  He’s made a team-high 16 appearances, leads Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a team-best 38 strikeouts and has a team-low 1.95 ERA.  Walsh also ranks ninth nationally in strikeouts per nine innings (12.36).

Prairie View A&M (8-22, 4-10)

The Panthers are looking to stop a five-game skid heading into the series. Outside of Arkansas-Pine Bluff, their conference wins have come on the road at Southern University (8-2 and 9-2), and at home against Grambling State University (8-7).

PVAMU is led offensively by senior Walter Wells.  The shortstop has started all 30 games and is hitting a team-best .327 with a team-high 35 hits, six doubles, three triples and 20 walks.  Both Connor Wrye and Kevin Macias have also started all 30 games.  Macias tied Wells with a team-high three triples this season.  Wrye has a team-high 19 RBI and three home runs under his belt.

The Panthers have four primary starters, led by Alberto Aveytia and Jordan Stewart.  Both hold a 2-5 record after starting all eight games they’ve appeared in this season.  Aveytia has the lowest ERA of the starters (4.59) and Stewart leads with a team-high 33 strikeouts.  Prairie View’s top reliever heading into the weekend is righty Grant Dougherty.  In nine appearances, Dougherty has given up zero earned runs, collected three saves and picked up 14 strikeouts.
