Robert Troiano Leads Benedict Over Albany State, 4-2

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Robert Troiano III pitched a complete-game three-hitter to help lead the Benedict College baseball team to a 4-2 victory over Albany State and win the conference series on Sunday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Troiano went all nine innings, struck out 11 and walked two batters to improve to 4-0 on the season. He was in a pitching duel with Albany State’s Calvin Tatum, who also went the distance and scattered nine hits and struck out six.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the first inning. Andrew McCoy tripled and came home on a groundout by Armando Valentin. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when the Tigers added two runs. Troiano walked and Darian Williams singled. Joel Manzano singled to score Troiano. Skyler Sabado had a sacrifice squeeze bunt to bring home Williams.

The Golden Rams cut the lead to 3-2 on a two-run homer by Chasen Roulhac in the top of the fifth inning.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the eighth inning on a solo homer by Reinaldo Santiago.

Benedict improves to 14-7 overall and 4-2 in the SIAC. Albany State drops to 5-18 overall and 4-2 in the SIAC.

The Tigers travel to Sumter to take on Morris College on Monday, then travel for a rematch with Newberry College on Wednesday. Benedict is back home next Saturday with a weekend series against Morehouse College.
