BATON ROUGE, La. – The Prairie View A&M University baseball team rallied late to win at Southern 8-6 Sunday to post a Southwestern Athletic Conference series win.

Trailing 6-3 after six innings, the Panthers (6-18 overall, 3-3 SWAC) rallied in the seventh. Kevin Macias singled to lead off the inning, and stole second before Andrew Garcia walked. Following a sacrifice bunt by Corbin Jamison to advance both runners, Xavier Jefferson‘s groundout scored Macias to cut the deficit to 6-4.

In the ninth, Jamison led off with a triple to right center before Jefferson walked and stole second. Den Beste’s sac fly scored Jamison. Jefferson advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on single to left field by Tyrone Thomas to tie the score at 6-6.

A fielding error allowed Carson Lee to reach base and moved Thomas to second. Pinch runner Jalyn Baker stole third, and he scored on a passed ball for the winning run. Lee then scored on an error for the final margin.

In the bottom of the ninth, Southern (4-11, 2-6) loaded the bases with two outs. However, Nic Campos came in to get the final out and the save as the Panthers won two of three games in the series.

The Panthers got off to a fast start in the first. With one out, Jefferson tripled to right center field, and scored on single by Den Beste for a 1-0 lead.

In the second inning, Steven Williams led off with a double to right field, and Macias walked. With two outs, both runners advanced on a passed ball and scored on Jefferson’s single to left field for a 3-0 lead.

Southern scored one run in the second, three in the fifth and two in the sixth before the Panthers’ rally.

Jefferson went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored, Carson Lee went 2-for-5, and Macias went 1-for-2 with a pair of runs scored.
