HUNTSVILLE — Peyton Baker has found his comfort zone.

For the Alabama A&M baseball team, that’s a good thing.

Since finding what Baker calls his “lucky charm,” the Alabama A&M right-hander has been dominant on the mound.

A dominant trend that continues.

Baker pieced together another strong start on the mound as Alabama A&M extended its winning streak to five games, topping Mississippi Valley State 6-2 Saturday afternoon in a Southwestern Athletic Conference baseball game.

Alabama A&M (11-20, 7-4 in SWAC) hosts Mississippi Valley State (7-20, 5-6) on Sunday in Game 3 of the best-of-three series.

“It’s the socks,” Baker said with a smile. “I wore these socks when I pitched (and got the win) last week at UAB. Ever since, I’ve worn these same socks every time I pitch. Us baseball guys are superstitious, but hey, it’s working. I’ve won my last three starts.

“But just so everyone knows, I’m washing the socks.”

Hygiene is good.

The same can be said for winning.

And during the past two weeks, Alabama A&M has been enjoying lots of wins.

“You can see how a winning streak has impacted the team,” Baker said. “Everyone is enjoying themselves. We’re having fun.

It’s good to be part of this.”

Richard Polinsky drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and Stephan Soto added another RBI to give Alabama A&M a 3-0 lead.

That was all Baker needed.

Baker (4-1) held Mississippi Valley to four hits and two runs through eight innings to earn the pitching win.

Raymond Santiago and Daniel Tart each drove in a run in the fifth inning to give Alabama A&M a five-run lead.

Tyus O’Neal-El led Alabama A&M with three hits, while Pierre BrewtonJonathan Smith II each added two hits.

Alabama A&M hosts Mississippi Valley State on Sunday at 1 p.m.
